History
MSC was organized in 1984 by a group of Montessori heads of school seeking to:
1. Protect the integrity of Montessori education in CT
2. Support legislation to protect the authentic practice of Montessori education
3. Provide networking and support for peer Administrators
4. Provide an annual statewide conference and professional development opportunities.
Over the years the group’s mission has evolved and expanded to include active participation in Montessori Public Policy Initiative as well as efforts towards greater outreach within the State with proponents of educational reform and Montessori education.
A Strategic Planning retreat was held in January 2014 resulting in defined Committees and dynamic goals for the organization. One of the goals was to create a unifying document of authentic Montessori practice in Connecticut’s Montessori programs. This was accomplished and resulted in Common Threads for Montessori Implementation. This document provides foundational principles of Montessori implementation for conversations with policy makers and allows additional parameters for a prospective school to consider in order to participate at the membership level with MSC.
“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”
